I just happen to have an archive file that has the individual floppy disks for windows 95 on it Now I formated 13 floppies to 1.72 mb (all except the install disk which has to be 1.44). The problem is when I use Win Image to make the disks, the install runs, asks me for the second disk, loads up until the screen where it asks me what kind of install to perform. Regardless of what I asnwer, I always get the error 'cannot read windows 95 setup disk'. I also tried the simple drag/drop of the files of the second disk, but no avail. How can I make these floppies work? Thanks in advance.
Win95 did come on 13 floppies. I have the.IMA's to prove it.CAB compression is great. CDG, Can't help ya with the problem since when I originally installed 95 back in the day on my brand new 486DX4100 I had the CD. When I did play around with the floppies I believe I just copied them to the HD and installed from there. Your right tho. The first floppy is formatted normally whereas the res of 'em are 1.72.

, 'unpatched security holes', and 'borged spam relay'. Seriously though, if it can run Win95, it can run 98 or NT4; Win95 is not the only option. I had a friend in college who used Win98 on a 486. Couldn't do much more than web browsing, network share browsing, and mp3s, but it worked fine for that. Some sort of slimmed-down Linux distro might be a possibility as well, if you're interested in playing with that (ancient hardware is supported pretty well in Linux for the most part). At any rate, if you still insist on win95, I'll stop trying to dissuade you and say 'good luck'. While I know my laptop meets 98 system requirements for RAM, HD, the 33 mhz will not pass the processor tests- you need a 66mhz 486DX (math copro vs SX with no math copro, probalby for other reasons too though).
A 33mhz 486sx will not work with 98- believe me, although I love the old and strange, I never cared much for windows 95 due to the constant problems I had with it (it was on my first computer- the family computer still had windows 3.1 on it with Tabworks) Anyways I appreciate the suggestion of 98, but I know it doesn't work. As for linux, I plan on switching the computer to Mulinux (I have already done so but I want something I can use between now and the summer, so I reformatted to windows). X window runs pretty slow though with any kind of GUI. At first I would decompress the disk archive, and inject the files onto the image, and use the 'format and write to disk' function to make the 1.72 disks.
My second install attempt, I used a program (maxformat??) or something to format the disks to 1.72, than dragged and dropped using windows explorer. My primary system that I'm writing with uses windows ME, since 1.72 isn't supported by XP. Are there any other image writers?
Also, could this be related to the fact that disk 2 has a prcopy file and a win95 CAB file on it? Ok, latest update- all of the cab files were extracted to my hardisk into a directory. The problem is that when I run setup from that directory, it asks for disk 2. When I hit enter, it cannot find the files that were extracted from the disk 2 cab file.
I am sure that I have both the prcopy and the win9502 files extracted to that directory. I have all of the setup files in that dirctory.
I have every other cab file extracted into that dirctory. Any thoughts? I can't simply use teh copy command since the disks are 1.72 DMF format which Dos doesn't understand, and I can't fit the CAB files onto a 1.68 format, and I can't format to 2.88 because I don't have any computers with disk drives to do that.

Setup is expecting the cab files and errors out when it doesn't find them. You might want to compare the date/time/sizes of the files that you have with what MS says they are supposed to be. The links below cover all of the disks for 95a including the contents of cab files. Repacking the files you have extracted from the cabs will fail; setup is looking for the cab files. You will get farther if you extract the cabs from the images and repack them in to archives that will fit on a 1.44 floppy.
You should be able to do this with winrar or the dos version. Awhile back I remember installing 95 inside VPC/Vmware. When it finished installation for it's first reboot, instead of continuing the installation I booted into DOS and noticed that I could continue installation myself when I wanted. All of the files were already decompressed from the CD/Floppy and I believe all I had to do was execute DOSX.EXE to continue the setup process.
This was quite awhile ago and I haven't verified what I did but this could probably help. If you installed 95 under VPC, test out what I said actually works and that you could continue installation by running DOSX. Then you could back up the uncompressed 95 files to floppy, copy back to laptop, then run DOSX from your laptop.
Then you shouldn't have to worry about installation discs. IIRC, installing Windows ME you can bypass the processor check dunno if 98 had something similar or even if it complains. Heck, on a 33mhz proc you'd need to run Winlite and use the 95 explorer anyways.at least that's what I needed to do for good performance on 66/100mhz machines. If you do give up on Win95, try out NT3.51/4 if you can. Much better than 9x. Hmmm, still not working out.
It gets to the same point in the setup and tells me it can't read the setup disk. The time says 10:50a instead of 9:50a which could be my problem. Another suspect is my bios, but I doubt that since I think it just wouldn't read the disks in the first place if that was the case. Can I alter the time? Otherwise I cannot find program services to update my bios with, so any help with that from anybody might also be appreciated. Do the file sizes match? You can use touch to change the date/time; a dos version is available below.

Hmmm, I know win95 has a minimum requirement of a 386sx processor, which would mean around 25 mhz, so my processor is not an issue here. I will try touching the times on the files to see if that helps (assuming I can figure it out since I'm not very good at DOS) I will look into NT since I hadn't even considered it until now. My reading indicated that 98 Will NOT install on anything lower spec than a 486DX 66 mhz processor.
Of course, thats what microsoft says anyway. DosFreak, I think you might be on a different level than I am interms of DOS knowledge. It appears as if the Precopy2 file is 19 bytes different than the one on the website, and it appears as if all of the files were made 07-11-95 at 10:50a. I am attempted to touch the CAB files to 9:50a, but setup still would not work. Anybody know where I can dig up winlite? I did look into that, but I can't find it anywhere.
Was windows NT 3.5 or 4 ever on floppy? As of right now I'm going to attempt to get the cab files off of my Companion disk onto floppies and get THOSE files onto my laptop, just to be sure that the pirated version that I'm attemting to use is not bad.
Odd that your files are 10:50. My Win95 floppies have a date time stamp of 7-11-1995 @ 9:50AM.
Precopy1.cab = 484,352 bytes just like the MS site. I'll check my CD ver and see what the stamp on those is. IIRC, NT3.51/4 only came on CD. As you've said it does appear that your ver is probably corrupted.
Hopefully your other ver will work. Go here for 98lite: Been forever since I used it. IIRC, 98lite heh only works for Win98. Dunno if there's a 95lite equivalent. Finally, can the processor in that laptop be upgraded? You can probably stick a DX4 in there depending on the type of mobo. Mabye an overdrive cpu or something.
In fairness, I have had copies of windows 95 and 98 work perfectly; copy proctection was not as good in those days, and for 95 it was non existent. 98 will burn as long as you burn it on the slowest setting. Proc is hardwired to the mobo, I already looked into that (wouldn't a 133 overdrive kick ass in that though?) I apologize that you didn't get the wink, mil.420, but I do appreciate your assistance. Who the hell just has archives of neatly sliced windows 95 diskettes anyway? I got the copy from a friend who got it from god knows where.
You could be jumping the gun too, considering that 95 is known to throw a hissy fit when installing in these older thinkpads. I'm going to 'steal' my friend's toshiba with inverted display that he doesn't use anymore and try to install my copy of windows 95 on that. If it works, I know its my hardware, if it doesn't, I'll know its my copy. Or maybe I won't KNOW, but I'll have a better idea. Otherwise my other thought is since I have a parallel port tape drive, I will have my other friend who has 95 on his old computer do a tape backup, and attempt to 'restore' his computer into my laptop.
I have not looked at the software for the backup, and don't know if that will be possible. Hi too had same problem with multiview like when i execute it used to compile but when i use it wouldnt recognise it as php file. Its working for me with apache2.0.47 and php 4.3.9 on solaris praveen. On 64-bit Fedora systems (I'm using Fedora 14), configuring PHP to use the MySQL libraries installed as part of the distribution gives the following error if you follow the default instructions in this manual. Cannot find libmysqlclient under /usr Modifying he following invocation of configure as follows:./configure -with-apxs2=/path/to/apxs -with-libdir=lib64 -with-mysql should work.
Note the addition of -with-libdir=lib64 This points the configure script to look for 64-bit mysqlclient libraries. For slackware 10.2 users with apache2, mysql5, and trying to install php5: when following the directions above, after this step:./configure -with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs -with-mysql i kept getting this error: 'Unable to find MySql header files.' The only way i could get php5 with mysql support was to compile MySql5 from source, and not use the binary as the mysql site recommends. Then i was able to./configure successfully, but for some reason php was configured to compile the CGI version. So, had to use this./configure line:./configure -with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs -with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql -disable-cgi alternatively, you could install php4 which does bundle the MySql client files. I have successfully installed Apache 2.2.11 and PHP 5.2.8 under Red Hat 9.0 on a Pentium 166 with 32 MB of RAM.
While I used RH9, the worst possible case, these notes are probably good for RH-based distributions too (Red Hat Enterprise, Fedora, CentOS.) If you want to install MySQL, it needs to be installed before PHP because PHP requires some libraries be available. One think important when picking up a binary distribution of MySQL is to download all four packages: MySQL-server, MySQL-devel, MySQL-client and MySQL-shared. Note: The MySQL was bundled with PHP 4 but is not anymore in PHP 5. Then you need to install Apache before PHP, because again PHP needs some libraries be available. I installed Apache 2 from source, using the very last version available, which is 2.2.11. I installed PHP 5.2.8 from source. Here, I had a number of problems, but none which I could not resolve easily, some of them with a little help from different forums I found through Google.
Rembember: When it says you need a package named xyz and you notice there is also one named xyz-devel, grab it. Most of the packages I got from: A similar page exists for other versions of Red Hat and: This site has an updated version of some of the packages. Make sure to use only the one labeled for you version (in my case, Red Hat 9.0) or it will not likely work. You already have glibc and glibc-common installed, but you need to get glibc-devel and glibc-kernheaders. Make sure to match glibc's version (rpm -q glibc). Note: When it says kernel-header is a required dependency, that's glibc-kernheader (not kernel-source).
You will also need binutils (no need to match the version), and gcc and cpp (version must match). You need zlib-devel (zlib is probably already installed, match the version you have). If you install the GD extension, the actual library is already bundled with PHP 5 (use that one, they have done some changes in there, so don't upgrade), but you will need to install libpng and libpng-devel (match version, or disable in configure if you don't want) and libjpeg (no -devel with that one). You will also need libxml2.
Now there were a problem, because PHP requires libxml2 be 2.6 or greater, but Red Hat only supplied 2.5.4-1 for RH9 (if you have a more recent distro, you might be more lucky). After looking for a while, I decided to grab the source code for the most recent distribution at the official website and compiled.

The standard, server, and client installations of MySQL do not include it. I read somewhere that the mysql and mysqli paths must be identical.
